Oyster River Potholes

The Oyster River Potholes are a must see! With some of the clearest water you’ll experience, this North Island secret is one worth sharing!

Location: There are two entries; The Lower Potholes -Off the Highway 19a turn onto York road.  This is the swimming hole section with a fast running river, not shown in the image shown, the swimming hole is 7km along York road until you reach the junction point for the power lines.   Be aware that this is a residential road with local residents, we ask that you respect their privacy.. For the area appearing in the image below – Upper Potholes, off the inland Hwy 19, just off from the Cranberry Rd Exit. Drive down a couple of logging roads, park, and walk down to the bowls.

Please take your rubbish with you.  These pot holes are not maintained by city operations, and rely on the responsible use of those that enjoy them.

Please note: Hazards present due to the terrain, so be cautious.
