Is this adventure tour for everybody?
Yes it is! This trip is very exciting, relaxing and rejuvenating trip in BC’s wilderness. We have guests ranging from 5 to 75 years old and this makes for a great family trip. A moderate level of fitness is recommended but not required. Simply enjoy the camp and choose your level of activity. We cater to all dietary requirements. Our guides are always there to ensure that your Vancouver Island wilderness experience is comfortable, safe, and relaxing.
What does the Base Camp look like?
Our Orca Camp is a comfortable Wilderness Resort Camp. It has no street access and is only accessible via boat. It is quiet, remote and eco friendly. It has been developed over the years to reflect its natural surrounding using mostly natural material. There is a covered group dinning area, sauna (disrupted for 2020 due to COVID-19), hot shower and private tenting areas (max. 2 occupancy per tent). The walk in-tents are made in a log cabin style with a screened vestibule which is perfect for storing gear. The beds are large cots with foam mattresses and cotton sheets. Quality sleeping bags and an extra blanket are included. Full size pillows are also provided to maximize your comfort (please bring your own sleeping gear for the 2020 season to avoid cross contamination).
Where does the tour start from?
This tour starts from Campbell River BC. There are direct flights from Vancouver International Airport to Campbell River. Because of our convenient location, you save money in travel expenses such as rental cars and fuel to get to the northern Vancouver Island to start your tour of Johnstone Strait. We offer FREE pick up and DROP OFF in the morning of your tour from your hotel/motel you are staying (Please note: due to social distancing protocols we recommend to come with your own vehicle. If that is not possible, mask must be worn through-out the car ride).
What to expect from water & weather and surroundings?
Johnstone Strait is a wild, magical and rugged place. At times we will be exposed to high winds, rain and stormy weather. You can not be sensitive to this type of weather or circumstances. We recommend to keep an open mind for adventure and trust your guides, that they will ensure the best sea kayaking adventure possible. Please be aware that Johnstone Strait is a marine highway for cruise ships, commercial fisherman, fella kayakers and other sailors. You will also find logging activity all over Vancouver Island’s Inside passage. Fishing and logging is part of our Island life.
Why Choose Grey Wolf Orca Tour?
Our camp is located along a smooth stone beach that is perfect for Orcas to rub their bellies. We have witnessed this rare occurrence on a few different occasions. Our location is an excellent salmon fishing spot as well, with all fishing gear provided. Humpback Whale come so close to the beach, that you will be able to smell their breath! You can feel confident that you are getting top notch, local guides that have spent their entire lives around Vancouver Island and have the best local knowledge of the wildlife, plants, geography and history of the area. Low impact camping and low impact wildlife viewing make this trip the perfect choice for your adventure vacation. Just contact Jesse or Sandra and we will make magic happen for you!
