Wet Felting Workshop: Cowl or Neck Warmer at Nanaimo Ceramic Arts

November 19 @ 2:00 pm - 5:00 pm

$85

Wet Felting Workshop: Cowl or Neck Warmer
Instructor: Megan Arundel
No previous experience necessary

In this 3 hour class you will make a cowl or neck warmer for yourself or as a gift. Using merino wool and a selection of silk or other natural embellishments, you will follow a four- stage process in creating your own original design: planning and layout, wet felting on a resist to make the “wrap-around” fabric, fulling (shrinking), and shaping. Bring a large bath towel and prepare to have fun.

About your instructor: Megan brings her experience as a painter in watercolour and mixed media to creating fabric from wool as an art medium. Flat projects like wall hangings and scarves and 3D forms like bowls or hats become palettes for nature-based images and textures. A simple mix of a few colours can be visually stunning; a complex of textured embellishment can evoke stories and memories. Like pottery, but unlike painting, felted objects are meant to be touched and lovingly handled! Megan is also a retired teacher and brings her enthusiasm in sharing knowledge and experience to facilitate workshops for beginners.
