The History of Westwood Lake

March 14 @ 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm

Free

Following the annual general meeting of the Nanaimo Historical Society, NHS Director Tony Orchard will present a new 30-minute video on the history of Westwood Lake, starting with the migration of the Westwood family to Nanaimo, the draining the original swamp, sale of the property and subsequent dam construction by the Nanaimo Electric Light and Power Company, and the conversion of the reservoir into a city park. Westwood Lake Park is arguably the best-known park in Nanaimo, and the most used by walkers, runners, bikers, and water enthusiasts. Very little has been written on its history and this video presents a new perspective.
