Nostalgia Looking Back, Looking Forward…
The Gallery @ Weird Church, Cumberland, is showcasing in May the work of two Comox Valley artists. Larissa McLean and Mary Gorman, both members of Artwrx studios in Courtenay, have created a show that tackles the theme of Nostalgia. They have produced a collection of works that incorporate images and colors evocative of personal memories, experiences lived and connections both created and/or lost.
The artists reflect on what was and what could be through the use of a whole array of imagery influenced by the natural world around them. Utilizing color, texture and the interplay of light and form, the pieces become snapshots of or windows into moments that hold spiritual and emotional significance to each artist.
Mary is originally from Dublin, Ireland. She settled here in the Comox Valley in 2017. The subject of light, in its many forms, is a common thread throughout her work. Painting is her medium, preferably on wooden cradle board.
Larissa McLean has been living here in the Comox Valley the past 9 years on a half-acre garden where she teaches painting, gardening and printmaking. Larissa uses layered fluid acrylics reminiscent of printmaking and lots of splashes of color.
You are invited to come and enjoy this show in the beautiful setting of the historic Weird Church in Cumberland village.
