Lightning Dust with Himalayan Bear & suffer fools
June 23, 2023 @ 7:00 pm - 11:00 pm$20 – $25
Fans of original music are in for a treat Friday June 23 when Lightning Dust headlines a night of eclectic and ethereal indie rock , along with fellow Vancouverites Himalayan Bear and local dream pop outfit Suffer Fools.
Lightning Dust began in 2007 as a collaboration between the duo of Amber Webber and Josh Wells, both members of Black Mountain at the time. It began as an outlet for their gentler sides, but with each album they felt the need to grow the palette and take on new and expanded sounds. Each new LP became a workshop for their production ideas. Eventually touring more extensively in North America and Europe, they would often bring in musician friends to round out the live band, changing instrumentation to suit the music. Their fifth (and brand new!) album Nostalgia Killer, was just released June 9 (on US indie label Western Vinyl) continues this attention to song and production craft as the best expression of their evolving sound: dramatic classic rock arrangements, cosmic synth-scapes, and heart-tugging vocals.
For Lightning Dust’s debut Comox Valley concert they will be a five piece rock group. Josh Wells explains: “The audience can expect some tender quiet moments, but also expect some loud and rocking fun, some gently strummed guitars, some loud clanging guitars, cosmic synth interludes and hypnotic motorik jams. It’s a dynamic show.”
Touring with Lightning Dust is Himalayan Bear; the 15 year running project of Canadian musician Ryan Beattie. The band has changed lineups and sounds on every album, sometimes just Beattie with a solo electric guitar, sometimes a 7 piece fuzz driven tropical tinged rock band. The latest iteration comprises some of Beattie’s oldest friends and musical collaborators, featuring members of Lightning Dust, Bison BC and Chet. Himalayan Bear’s new album Factual Past was just released in May via Oscar St. Records.
All ages AND licensed for 19+
