Gulls of southern Vancouver Island

February 24 @ 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm

Free

Back by popular demand, Gulls! Join Andrew Jacobs, Rocky Point Bird Observatory volunteer, UVic Biology student and gull enthusiast for an on-line presentation about Gull identification and hybrids. Andrew will be discussing the gulls that regularly inhabit the Victoria region and how to identify them. He will cover the basics of aging large gulls, identifying gulls by bill shape and primary pattern, and recognizing gulls in flight including immatures gulls and hybrids. Special attention will be given to the extensive Glaucous-winged gull hybrid complex and what that means to us here on the south Island. Grab your field guides and a notebook so you won’t have to shy away from this tricky group of birds again!
