Family Day Workshop: Screen Printing as Activism
February 20 @ 12:00 pm - 2:00 pmBy Donation
Join us for Family Day with a screen printing workshop with artist Emily Thiessen!
Emily is the artist behind the poster art for the “United For Old Growth” in Victoria on February 25th 12pm – 3:30pm at the BC legislature.
Learn about the history of protest posters and the role of artwork in these landscapes before trying your hands at creating your own prints and artwork.
The workshop will feature screen printing on paper, fabric and banners. Bring your own blank t-shirts, fabric and poster to work on in this collaborative project supplies will also be available at the workshop!
Emily cut her teeth designing march posters, printing on bedsheets, and making a scene about divestment and the TMX pipeline. She has worked as an illustrator and muralist and recently moved to K’ómoks First Nation territories to work at Wachiay screen print studio, following a craving to make things with her own two hands. Emily comes from two lines of restless settlers: Hokkien Chinese-Malaysians, and Mennonites who immigrated to Treaty 1 territory. Talk to her about: colours, comics, analogue design, traditional crafts, movement building, and creative troublemaking!
