Dismantling Racism: Informed Ally-ship Study
Sep 27 at 5:30pm - 7:00pm
An event every week that begins at 5:30pm on Monday, repeating indefinitely
For people looking to step further into reconciliation and anti-racism efforts, but who would like to learn more tools around where to start first. (Please register via our website: https://www.thecentrecr.org/events)
We’ll lay out a foundation for you of what you will need to know to spot bias, discrimination, racism and privilege within your own life and community, and then give you some further learning resources to better prime yourself for allyship. (As Maya Angelou said, “Do the best you can until you know better. Then when you know better, do better.”)
This 5 week course (Mondays, from Sept 27th to Nov 8th – with Oct 4th and 11th off) will introduce you to the wisdom shared in books like, “Decolonize First”, by Ta7taliya Michelle Lorna Nahanee, “Me and White Supremacy”, by Layla F. Saad, “White Fragility”, by Robin DiAngelo and “How to Be An Anti-Racist” by Ibram X. Kendi.
The format will involve both practical and self-reflection exercises, as well as information based learning. Please have a journal or notebook handy in class.
Attendance will be in person or via Zoom, online.
Led by Mindfulness Practitioner, Missy Christensen RScP (a “white” “settler”, operating in solidarity). Missy is the founder and admin of our Dismantling Discrimination Connection Group.
The energetic exchange rate suggested for this 5 week course is $125. (1/2 of all proceeds go to charity). However, you are welcome to pay what you can. The point here is education and uplift, not money. No one will be turned away.
You will receive the Zoom link after you have registered, for those choosing to attend online.
