Creating Short Stories

May 22 @ 8:00 am - 5:00 pm

$30.00

From oral histories to Facebook posts, stories are what define us, yet, storytelling often presents as, “I have a great idea for a story, but I don’t know where to start.”

If you find yourself facing that ‘where do I begin’ dilemma, this workshop, lead by acclaimed writer, Genni Gunn, is just what you’ve been seeking to get you started toward moving your awesome ideas toward well-crafted story concepts.

Designed to help you take an idea and learn how to express and compress it into a vivid short story, participants will explore the basic elements of fiction including setting, characters, plot, and theme. Writing techniques, such as creating a good beginning, choosing a verb tense, dialogue, pacing, and maintaining conflict wil also be covered. Brief examples of these elements will be presented and examined, then participants will be encouraged to experiment through exercises leading toward formulating a short story. There will also be an opportunity to share some of this writing with other participants.

Wordstorm Members receive a 25% discount on registration fee.
