Nov 27 at 7:30pm - 9:00pm

|Recurring Event (See all)

One event on November 29 at 2:00pm

If you look at a culinary treat, can you figure out how the chef prepared it? Likewise, if you listen to a beautiful song, can you figure out how the choir prepared it?
On November 27 and 28, in a concert titled “From the Sublime to the Ridiculous,” Island Voices will draw back the curtain and give you a glimpse behind the scenes. In addition to a traditional concert performance, the choir will deconstruct some pieces, taking them apart right in front of you and then putting them back together. New musical director John Hooper will demonstrate the various aspects of the choir’s repertoire to give you insight into how it comes to life. “The journey is at least as rewarding as the destination,” Hooper says, “and we want to share that with our audience as well. You’ll be able to hear details that you might have missed before and hopefully have a richer sublime experience and a fuller ridiculous one as well.”
In addition to this deconstruction, the choir will sing a number of traditional choral pieces and newer Canadian works, including a world premiere arrangement by Hooper. Island Voices will also welcome their special guests The Quarantones, a men’s choral ensemble who have rehearsed and performed in a variety of unique ways throughout the pandemic.
Island Voices invites you to enjoy “From the Sublime to the Ridiculous”, presented at Campbell River United Church (415 Pinecrest Rd. in Campbell River) at 7:30 pm on Saturday, November 27. There will also be a Sunday matinee at 2:00 pm on November 28 at Merville Hall (1245 Fenwick Rd. in Merville).
