Between the Lines – Haiku Workshop

Between the Lines – a haiku workshop with kjmunro will help you better understand the depth of meaning packed into the minimal syllables of poems written in this ancient form as well as how to compose your own haiku. It has been said that it’s what you don’t say in a haiku that is the most important part.

The workshop will begin with a half-hour presentation in which participants will have the opportunity to become more familiar with haiku – both the process and the poems that result. You will be guided into learning how to read between the lines of a haiku and discover how reading and writing haiku will improve the ways you write in any genre.

Following this exploration of haiku, participants will be guided through a quick list exercise plus four 15-minute writing sprints. These exercises are geared to improve your skills for haiku/haibun, but can also be useful to hone your prose or other types of poetry. Some poems will be read for inspiration and questions will be welcome at any time.
