Nanaimo Parks, Walks, Hikes, Ride, Courts and Swimming

Nanaimo is known as the Harbour city. Home of two ferry terminals at Duke Point and Departure Bay. Approx 2 hours sailing time to Vancouver. 1.25 to Victoria on Hwy 1 Trans Canada Hwy.

Nanaimo Harbourfront walkway-

Is a multi-use trail along the Newcastle Channel and downtown waterfront. Wheelchair accessible.

Ammonite Falls-

Is one of the three significant waterfalls in Benson Creek, in Mount Benson’s northwestern foothills. Jameson Rd is a popular access to Ammonite Falls. For more information call 250-248-3252

Linley Valley Cottle Lake Park-

Is a wilderness park located between Departure and Hammond Bay. The network of trails within the park will take you through various landscapes from forested trails to valleys, fields and rocky knolls. The city managed portion of the parkland includes groomed trails and maintained boardwalks. 3669 Rock City Road.

Westwood Lake Park-

Is one of Nanaimo’s best loved parks. Nestled in the foothills of Mt. Benson it is a year round destination. There is a 5.51km trail around the lake, the lake trail is considered an easy walking trail. The main beach area near the paved parking lot is Nanaimo’s only lifeguard patrolled fresh water swimming spot. Washroom and change room on site. Small playground located at the second beach near the gravel parking lot. 381 Westwood Road

Parks and Recreation-

Bowen Park is located in the heart of the city, with most of the 36 hectare park remaining undeveloped. A leisurely stroll leads to scenic waterfall and fish ladder. Visit the duck pond and an amazing rhododendron grove with over 350 different species. Includes an outdoor swimming pool(Summer), Sports fields, Curling Club, Outdoor LaCrosse box, Disc Golf (Discs can be borrowed at registration counter), Tennis Courts, Horse Shoe Pitches, Sand Volleyball Courts, Two Playgrounds, Lawn Bowling Green and an Outdoor amphitheatre available for weddings and other private events. Loudon park and Walkway-

Is a popular spot year round for swimming, various paddling sports, walking, and fishing. On a hot summer day with the sandy beach and swimming float the park is a great place to be. The walking trail runs along the shoreline between Norwell Drive and 101 street. It is a gentle walk but is uneven in some sections. 4295 Victoria Avenue.
